Community Advocacy

Members of ACAP receive training in self advocacy and systems advocacy to enhance their ability to voice their concerns and opinions on social and civic matters that affect their lives. Members invite legislators to speak, attend public hearings, visit the State Capitol, and perform projects tht improve the lives of all people who have disabilities.

Global Friends

Global Friends is an advocacy group of ACAP which focuses on conducting online research to find and contact other disability organizations and individuals from other parts of the country and world. Information and cultural sharing takes place in the form of online chats, emailing, and forming penpals.

People First

People First is the Waukesha Chapter of the People First Wisconsin advocacy organization. The Waukesha group holds weekly sessions discussing and planning monthly advocacy events for families, self advocates, service providers, and stakeholders from around Waukesha.

Accessibility Advocacy

Accessibility Advocacy is a enterprise of ACAP members, which investigates local accessibility issues around the City of Waukesha. The group researches and visits various businesses and civic establishments in the community to educate regarding accessibility of buildings and services. They are also spreading the message of the New Dynamic Accessible Icon (www.accessibleicon.org).

R-Word Campaign

R-Word Campaign is an annual advocacy project that ACAP members conduct each year to raise awareness of issues of bullying and degrading slang terms, and to encourage respect for people of all abilities. The campaign visits area schools and universities and invites students to sign a pledge to refain from using the R-Word.
