Education & Enrichment

Members of ACAP pursue a variety of educational and enrichment opportunities throughout the year. Hobbies are explored, specialty topics are experimented with, and new interests are discovered as people learn and search out new vistas of personal growth.

“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” ~John Wooden

Gardening

Gardening is an opportunity for ACAP members to learn about and experience the wonders of the growth cycle while comprehending their own growth as gardeners. Raised bed gardens, container gardens, and standard plots are worked in conjunction with Nugenesis Farms, Green Power Gardens, UW-Extension Community Gardens, and the First United Methodist Gardens.

Wellness Classes

Wellness classes offer members of ACAP choices in learning about selecting healthy food, developing exercise habits, undertaking weight loss and maintenance programs, and extending these practices into their daily lives. Instruction is provided by YMCA staff, UW-Extension staff, or ACAP staff.

Cooking/Baking Classes

Cooking/Baking Classes encourage ACAP members to take a greater role in the basic domestic duties that are a standard part of every household. Learning and practicing kitchen skills as well as the safety and hygiene requirement that accompany those skills are key elements of these classes. Preparing a family style dinner, baking holiday cookies, learning specialty recipes—all with adaptive kitchen utensils—makes for an enriching and delicious experience!
